All you need to know about PM JAY – Featured, Benefits, Inclusion & Exclusions

India is a developing country, and measures are being taken everyday for easy access to healthcare. Every Indian should have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their income level. Although this is the ideal situation, it is not entirely in place yet. The introduction of the PM JAY in Gujarat is one such move in the right direction. The government wants to make it possible for customers to access high-quality healthcare through this programme.

What is PM JAY ?

The Mukhyamanti Amrutum Yojana (MA Yojana), a health initiative established by the Gujarat state government on September 4th, 2012, aims to give BPL (Below Poverty Line) households in Gujarat financial assistance so they can access the best medical and surgical care possible for their ailments. A cashless health card is provided to beneficiaries so they can use it to access the program’s advantages.

The Gujarat state government expanded the program’s advantages when the public recognised its value. Currently, it covers households earning up to INR 4,00,000 annually. The programme is now known as the Mukhyamantri Amrutum Vatsalaya Yojana.

Inclusions & Exclusions of PM JAY

Families in Gujarat that earn less and live below the poverty line are given financial assistance through this programme. This plan was eventually altered to accommodate lower middle-class families in the state, even though it was initially created for families living below the poverty level. The updated programme, known as Mukhyamantri Amrutum Vatsalya Yojana, now covers and caters to more families.

The main advantages provided by MA Yojana are:

  • Coverage for medical costs totalling INR 5 lakh per family annually.
  • INR 300 in travel expenses for each hospital stay.
  • It also provides all the advantages of the PMJAY Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • Diagnostic costs, hospital registration fees, surgical costs, medication costs, patient meal costs, admission costs, hospital fees, post-surgery follow-up costs, and transport costs are also covered by insurance coverage.

Features & Benefits of PM JAY

MA Yojana includes the following provisions:

  • Coverage of pre-existing as well as new diseases.
  • Coverage of medical treatments in government as well as private hospitals.
  • Free-of-cost healthcare services to all the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
  • Coverage of diseases like tuberculosis, cancer, heart, kidney, mental illness, and other critical illnesses.
  • Provision of health insurance coverage to all the members of the family.
  • Provision of medical check-ups at regular intervals.
  • Provision of free medicines to BPL families.
  • Provision of financial assistance to the families of deceased individuals.

There are only a few exclusions from the MA Yojana, such as:

  • The scheme does not cover medical expenses incurred for non-essential treatments or procedures.
  • It does not cover any medical expenses for treatment related to substance abuse, addiction or mental health.
  • It does not cover the cost of medical treatment or surgical procedures undertaken abroad.
  • It does not cover any medical expenses incurred for cosmetic procedures.
